Reviews, and the question that gets useful ones

Most review requests produce a sentence that persuades nobody. The problem is almost always the question rather than the customer.

What it is

Why generic reviews happen

  • Please leave us a review invites a summary. Summaries are pleasant and useless.
  • Great service, thanks, five stars tells the next buyer nothing they did not already assume.
How it works

The question that works

  • What were you worried about before you called us, and what actually happened?
  • That produces a review naming a doubt your next customer already has, answered in a stranger's voice rather than your marketing copy.
  • One of those is worth twenty of the other kind.
What to check

Responding to a bad one

  • You are not writing to the angry customer. You are writing to everyone who reads it afterward.
  • Three sentences: acknowledge what happened, state what you did, offer to continue directly.
  • No arguing about details, no suggestion that they misremembered. A calm reply under a harsh review does more for trust than a wall of five stars.
Worth knowing

What not to do

  • Never offer anything in exchange for a review. It violates most platform policies and it is obvious in the writing.
  • Do not send everyone to the same platform on the same day. A sudden cluster looks exactly like what it is.
The short version

Change the question, not the frequency.
