Discovery & Research
Most agencies open a design file on day one. We open a notebook. Discovery is where we find out what your customers actually believe, what your competitors are quietly getting right, and where the honest opportunity sits.
A rebrand that fails almost never fails because the logo was ugly. It fails because nobody checked what the market already thought, so the new work solved a problem the business did not have. Discovery is the cheapest insurance you will ever buy against that outcome.
Our discovery process is deliberately unglamorous. We talk to your customers, including the ones who did not buy. We read your sales emails and listen to recorded calls. We audit every competitor in your category the way a prospect would, on a phone, at night, with no patience. Then we tell you what we found, including the parts you will not enjoy hearing.
You end up with a written findings report that becomes the reference document for everything after it. Every design choice, every headline, every page on the site traces back to something in that report. When someone asks why the homepage says what it says, there is an answer with evidence behind it.
What this includes
Stakeholder interviews
One on one conversations with founders, sales, and service teams. The people closest to the customer usually already know the answer. It has just never been written down.
Customer and lost-deal interviews
We speak to buyers and to people who chose someone else. The second group is more useful and almost nobody talks to them.
Competitive audit
A structured teardown of the five to ten competitors your buyers actually compare you against, covering positioning, pricing signals, site experience, and search visibility.
Search and demand research
What your market types into Google, in what volume, with what intent. This shapes the site architecture long before design starts.
Analytics and funnel review
Where traffic comes from, where it leaves, and which pages are quietly costing you money.
Findings report and recommendation
A plain English document with what we learned, what it means, and what we recommend doing about it in priority order.

Questions about discovery & research
Can we skip discovery to save money?
You can, and sometimes it makes sense. If you are a two year old company with a clear niche and a founder who already talks to customers weekly, a compressed one week version is often enough. What we will not do is pretend design decisions made without evidence are strategy. If you skip it, we will tell you plainly which recommendations are informed opinion rather than research.
How long does discovery take?
Two to four weeks for most small and mid size businesses. Longer if you sell into several distinct markets or need interviews with hard to reach buyers.
Do you need access to our analytics and CRM?
Read only access is ideal. We can work without it, but the funnel picture gets much less precise and we will say so in the report rather than guessing.
What if the research says our current brand is fine?
Then we tell you that and you keep your money. It has happened. We would rather send you away with a short list of fixes than sell a rebrand you do not need.
