Brand and website

Their customer is mid rush with a broken machine.

Express Fix Coffee has kept commercial coffee programs pouring across San Diego County since 2011. The person searching for them is not researching. They are standing behind a counter during service with a dead group head, and the site had to respect that.

The situation

Equipment repair is an urgency category. Nobody browses espresso machine repair for pleasure. They search because a machine that produces revenue every ninety seconds has stopped, and they will call whoever looks competent and reachable first.

That makes most of the conventional website structure actively unhelpful. A visitor in that state does not need a mission statement. They need to know this business services their brand, covers their area, and can be reached right now.

What we found

Brand recognition was doing more work than expected. An operator with a La Marzocco does not search for espresso repair, they search for La Marzocco repair. That meant brand level pages were not a nice addition, they were the primary route in.

The second finding was that preventative maintenance is the better business and the harder sell. Repair is reactive and competitive. Maintenance contracts are predictable revenue, and they are almost never marketed because the customer only thinks about the machine when it breaks.

The third was water. Most failures trace back to water quality and neglected cleaning, which makes filtration both a genuine service line and the most credible way to demonstrate expertise.

The decision

Speed of contact above everything. The phone number and a service request are reachable from any point on any page, because the visitor is frequently standing up while reading.

Build for brand searches. Individual pages for La Marzocco, Rancilio, Nuova Simonelli, DeLonghi and Jura, because that is how the demand actually arrives.

Give away the care advice. Backflushing, filtration intervals, and burr replacement published openly. It costs a few repair calls and earns the maintenance relationships, which are worth considerably more.

What we chose not to do. Trade offs are the interesting part of any project, so we publish ours.

  • We did not bury the phone number below a form. In an urgency category a form is a worse conversion path than a tappable number.
  • We did not lead with the company story. It is on the site and it is not the first thing a panicking operator needs.

These describe what the project produced rather than what it earned. We do not publish performance figures a client has not approved, so where those exist they appear here, and where they do not, this is what we can say honestly.
